Project...project...project...

Once again, the project. I've got most of the stuff, but (thankfully) Mr. E is going to let me edit tomorrow during class. Then I'll be done, since I'll have my paper done tonight.

Final project...again

Well, I've pretty much got the paper for it done, so I'm good there. There's still other things that need to happen, but as long as I get some stuff tonight we're good.

Projects, projects, and more projects...

Well, I worked on my final project more today. I've decided what I want to do, and (obviously, for those who have known me for years) I'm going to talk about the Kentucky Derby and probably other horse-racing stuff.

Using the cloud...

Ok, so two advantages of using the cloud are if aliens converge upon your house and pour inter-galctic space lava on it you will still be able to access anything that you have stored on the cloud, and you can also do a whole bunch of things like video and picture editing with software that's available on the cloud. But some disadvantages of using the cloud are you ALWAYS have to have an internet connection to use it. And lag is so annoying!!!!!!!! It's another disadvantage too.

Podcast Essay

I am making a podcast called, "The Dealio", with my friends Kahari, Kayla, Hannah, and Quin. It is a comedy podcast that is geared towards people of almost any age who like comedy. Although some people might be a little young for some of the humor, it is not age-specific. I think that the audience for "The Dealio" would be interested in the podcast since it is targeted toward people who like comedy.

Our podcast would be put out on a weekly basis because with comedy it's fairly easy to come up with new materials regularly. Also, people would most likely subscribe to it on a weekly basis because there is always fresh information or material for comedy. The technical term in this instance for fresh information or material is dynamic. Comedy is dynamic because there is always something new to add or do for it.

In the next episode of "The Dealio", the different segments will be the same but in a different order. Also, the information will be different for each segment and there will possibly be an email segment at the end. There will be different news, another debate, and the advice will change as well. Otherwise, the podcast will still have the same types of information.

Everything went really well in the making of the podcast, and it was very fun! One thing that worked really well was having more of an outline for our podcast instead of a complete script. Improvisation and pure randomness really helps make what's being said funny. The editing is somewhat difficult with a group, though. When things are being cut out and graphics and music are being put in it's fine, but sometimes when it comes to fine tuning it it turns into a one person job.

Something important that I learned about podcasting is that Garage Band is the program to use to edit a podcast. I'm sure there are other ways, but in my opinion Garage Band is the best. "The Dealio" was really fun to make with my friends. It's really fun to make a comedy podcast with friends, but it's even more fun to make it so that others can enjoy it too.

Ideas for podcasts

Well, I really want to do an anti-advice podcast. That would be fun!!! I could probably do something on horse racing since I really like that too. Let's see, one more idea...I could do something on the basics of crafting, like how to crochet, how to knit, how to make a broken pot sculpture, and so on. And...I'm out of ideas for now.

RSS feeds

Ok, call me a nerd, but here we go. I subscribed to an RSS feed from ESPN, on horse racing. I subscribed to an RSS feed from Sports Illustrated, also on horse racing. The third, from equisearch, on guess what? Horse care. My last one is from Yahoo Canada Sports on - yup, you guessed it - horse racing. My reasons? I really, really, really like horses, and racing is awesome!!! It's intense, suspenseful, and you get to watch beautiful, powerful animals surge around a track at full speed. I also want to follow the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont this year to see if someone actually takes the Triple Crown this year. Also, I want to see the results of the Santa Anita Derby. Horse racing is so cool!!!!!!!

Podcasts, podcasts, podcasts...

Podcast. It's a series of digital media files that come out in episodes that a whole bunch of people listen to. Yup. That's pretty much it. Ummmmm...Aliens are converging upon the Earth and are about to pour out inter-galactic space lava to destroy all human life. RUN!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry. That was unrelated to the post.) Let's see. Ideas...give the wrong advice for certain situations and make it really random and funny. That would be fun!!! The bald frog is wearing a wig and trying to kiss the princess...

Disconnect from it all. Would I?

I don't know. I have never really considered it. I don't have a tv, sure, I live a sheltered life, but that doesn't mean I'm completely disconnected. There's always been a computer at my house, and I kinda glad 'cause that's the only way I can watch movies. :) But I guess I wouldn't mind it too much if I disconnected from electronics. I mean, I use my cell phone a lot, but I could always make an address book and call my friends from the home line. And the computer would be no problem because I love to read, and I read way more than I'm ever on the computer. I'd miss it a little, but I can always read or go outside or do something more useful that being on the computer all day. Although one downside would be my favorite series comes off the internet since it's no longer in print. Well, I'm sure there's a place out there somewhere where I could get all 90 or so of the books. (Yes, I know, I'm a nerd.) So, I think it would be pretty easy in most aspects, but I'd have a harder time with not being able to get my favorite series.

My Kitty

Awwwwwww!!!! Isn't my kitty so cute? Even though it's an old picture, she's still that adorable!!! Her name is Almond, and my family got her from my aunt a while ago. She was wild before we got her, but she refuses to leave the house now. She's definitely my cat. My mom said the other day that she wanders the house looking for me when I'm gone. (It drives my mom nuts 'cause she yowls a lot too). Well, it's late so I'd better sign off.

(She's so cute!!!!!!!)

Meltdown Thursday...Worst Day of the Week.

It's 7:00 thursday morning, the day after the snow day. I'm happily packing up my backpack with all of my b-day books and assignments. My ride gets here at around 7:30, and we head off to school. So far, my day is fine. Then, when we were 3 quarters of the way to school, my ride innocently mentions that she can't wait for choir today. Then begins my total freak out moment. You see, choir is on a-days, and I had left all of my a-day stuff at home, thinking it was a b-day. So we get to school, I rush inside, put my books in my locker, and immediatly head to the office. Once there, I call my dad. By this time I'm nearly in tears. Thankfully, my dad said he'd get my stuff to me during first hour. I hang up, and head to the math room for my first class. It's now 8:05 in the morning. On my way into the math room, I run into my friend Kahari. She asks me what's wrong, and I immediatly burst into tears. Complete meltdown. So she gets me a tissue and says that it'll be ok, just go talk to the teachers and tell them what happened. So we do that, and I manage to calm down before class starts.
The rest of the day went better, but it was still the worst day I've had at school all year. A meltdown is not the best way to start the day, that's for sure.

Major Meltdown...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I'm ok. I got to school today, thinking it was a B day, and guess what it was?!?! An A day!!!!!!! (It would have been nice if someone would have TOLD me!) Anyways, I called my dad who said he'd bring my stuff (by this time I'm beginning to cry) and then I ran into my friend Kahari. That was my last straw. I started crying (well, bawling) as soon as I saw her. So, she went with me to talk to teachers and they said it's ok because yesterday was a snowday and lots of people brought the wrong stuff. Talk about MAJOR FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm ok, I'm ok...

Snow day!!!

I got to sleep in today!!! (wow, talk about out of the blue). Anyways, I'm kind of bored.
I started reading Beric the Briton by G. A. Henty today. It's really good! It's about the Roman invasion of Britain. I'd recommend it along with any other G. A. Henty book out there to anyone who's looking for a good historical fiction book to read.
My mom made cookies!!!!!!! Mmm, they're really good to. She wants my brother and me to make a snowman today, but it still hasn't stopped snowing so we probably won't. Well, I'm going to watch a movie now, so I'll sign off. See ya!!!

My First Post!

Well, here goes! I should probably start by telling a few things about myself. I'm Alyssa, and I'm making a blog for a computer class. This is definetly the best school project ever!!! I like to ride horses, play the piano, sing, read, and the list goes on. In general, I like school, unless I have a ton of homework! A couple things you should probably know about me - I'm weird, I sing A LOT, and I will state the obvious often. Also, if you tell me to "Guess what!", I will probably say "Ummm...Aliens are converging on the Earth and are about to pour out inter-galactic space lava to destroy all human life!!!". Yeah. I'm a little random, too.

One last thing. I love Jesus!!! He's awesome, and he has a lot of awesome stuff to say in his word, the Bible! Most of the time when I sing I'll be singing a favorite praise song. I also attend a bible study at school. My church and youth group are amazing, and so are all of my brothers and sisters in Jesus!!!
